Last night was the Nickelback concert in Nashville. Before I explain the title of this post, I want to say that I had a good time. We had a lot of fun, overall the concert was good, and we even managed to learn some new words/phrases on the drive down. We missed the first opening act Puddle of Mud because of traffic for the Titans game. But, we did get to see Finger Eleven and of course Nickelback.
My issue with Nickelback is the same one many people have: a lot of their songs sound exactly the same. But for all the talk about this being a “rock” concert, I was a little surprised at how corny some of it was. I expect corny stuff at a BSB concert and I love it, but I don’t expect it at a show where they pat you down before you can go in. (Although security was not smart enough to go through bags. I’m assuming the guy smoking pot behind us had his stash in his date’s purse.) Here are some examples:
- Pyro: Fire shooting up on the stage? Yes. Fireworks? Yes. The last concert I went to that had pyro was a BSB concert in 1999 or 2000
- Throwing things into the audience: I don’t mean guitar picks. BSB used to fly out into the crowd during “Quit Playing Games” and toss out stuffed animals. Nickelback throws out t-shirts using guns similar to what Wendy’s has at WKU basketball games. They also throw out cups of beer.
- When I say Nickel, you say Back: Seriously, they did this.
